The Last Word's original music is a best described as melodic rock/pop with a bit of good old rock ‘ n’ roll thrown in for good measure. All the songs rely on solid rhythm, strong melodies and catchy hooks.
A guitar based band benefiting from intricate lead lines from both guitar and keyboard.
The Last Word have produced two Albums of original material so far. 'Right's Not Always Good' and 'Why Don't Ya!' are available on CD while the third Album is still awaiting completion.
2009 saw further radical change to line up of The Last Word, when founder member Rob Hayes decided to quit following a difficult and disjointed year. Rob now wanders the world, meets people, argues with them and has adventures like Cain in Kung Fu.
Kirsty Jackson joined the band in late 2009 to take up the vacant lead vocal spot giving the band an exciting new repoitoire of covers and new take on some of The Last Word's own material. To complete the line up change, the brilliant Simon Collins came in on drums.
The bands first gig was in Summer 2003 at Wimbledon Cricket Club, where with amps turned up to eleven they managed to empty a very crowded room by the end of the first song. With the crowd enjoying the music outside, they ploughed through the set
contemplating the importance of good sound check!
With the volume issue sorted The Last Word set about writing, performing and recording their music.
The 'Summer' of 2007 saw a change to line up of the band, with the very welcome arrival of Del 'boy' Walker on drums after the sad departure of good friend Simon.The constant bad jokes and exceptionally loud noises continued thankfully.
The Last Word was originally formed by Rob Hayes and Tony Kelvin back in 1986. As a duo they compiled a catalogue of over 60 original songs!
The band was re-born in the Summer of 2003 with the welcome arrival of Brian Hailey on Lead Guitar and Jonathan Ball on Keyboards. Doug Glover on Bass and Simon Carse on Drums soon completed the six piece line up.
Many of the original songs were soon re-invented and new songs emerged from Brian, Rob and Tony. Band collaborations and individual songwriters, meant great new music was constantly expanding the Last Word’s song catalogue.
